Default C6 Z06 stabilizer bars and shocks...

Are they a direct replacement on my 2003 coupe? I want to purchase them from another member and want to make sure. Thanks!

I would do the shocks but I think the C6 Z06 rear bar it too much for an otherwise stock C5 coupe.

The C6 Z51 bars would work great - the rear bar is a smaller diameter than the Z06.

Unless you have a big tire in the rear such as a 335 or something stick with the C6 Z51 rear bar otherwise your car will oversteer

I think you're right, no sense in putting such a stiff stabilizer bar in with a risk of making it handle worse.

Yes and as another stated, most use the C6Z51 bars with the C6Z06 shocks. This is the #1 most popular suspension upgrade for C5 guys.

A larger bar on the rear can have a tendency toward oversteer/or a tendency toward reducing understeer. Adding Z06 bars, front and rear, will maintain very balanced handling, and improve your handling as well. A Z06 deos not oversteer and a conventional C5 with Z06 sway bars ,added front and rear, will not oversteer. Add the sway bars and enjoy. Forget the

Roger T: C5Z bars are fine, but C6Z bars are too much for a C5 with base/Z06 wheel widths. The C6Z51 bar is similar to the C5Z bar but is a lot cheaper which is why it's a popular upgrade.

Gene: I will also be purchasing C6Z51 bars from you in the summer... My 2003 has metal end links already so I don't need to purchase new ones, right?

Again, I have to say . By your logic, the guys in our autocross group with large GM T1 front and rear sway bars on their C5 Z06's have cars which are uncontrollable. They, actually, show us how it's done.

Take notes. There is something to be learned here.

I hope this helps.

The C6Z rear bar is thicker than the C5 T1 rear sway bar.

Show me where I said "uncontrollable"... The C6Z rear bar is set up for a car with 12" wide rear wheels which a C5 does not have. I am not alone in this theory.

That being said, I'm sure people have enjoyed success with all sorts of different setups.

I have taken lots of "notes" since joining this forum.

Mr TT,

Show me where I said you said " uncontrollable ." What I correctly said was " ....by your logic... " the T1 cars would be uncontrollable.

C6 Z06 rear sway bars are 28.0 mm.
C5 T1 rear sway bars are 27.5 mm.
A differance of .5 mm. A mute point

I was under the impression that the C6Z had 28.8 mm rear sway bars... anyway just for fun I figured out what the front:rear ratios of the different setups are...

C5 Base: 23 mm front / 19.1 mm rear (1.20)
C5 Z51: 28.6 mm front / 23.6 mm rear (1.21)
C5 Z06: 30.0 mm front / 23.6 mm rear (1.27)
C6 Z51: 31 mm front / 25.4 mm rear (1.22)
C5 T1: 38.4 mm front / 27.5 mm rear (1.40)
C6 Z06: 31 mm-front / 28.8 mm rear (1.08)

Too big of a rear bar with too small of a front bar will decrease available traction when exiting corners and cause you to oversteer. The C6Z bar has the lowest front:rear ratio, presumably because the C6Z has quite wide rear tires, so the engineers have more inherent grip to work with at the rear and can afford to decouple the rear a bit and still maintain a similar balance to the other models. The T1s are on the opposite end of the C6Zs and seem to be the most aggressive and best suited for auto-x, thus explaining why your friends like them. All the other setups, including the C6Z51, will preserve the neutrality of a base suspension C5 but will reduce roll. That is why people recommend C6Z51 sways over the C6Z06 sways on a C5.

I never said, implied, or used logic to state that C6Z sways or a T1 setup will make a C5 uncontrollable. I am just providing a counter to your assertion that C6Z bars will not change the handling balance of a C5. If you ran the same size tires as a C6Z on a C5, then I would agree with you, and could see recommending C6Z sways over anything else. But if you're going to run 245/275 or 265/295 tires I would think that the C6Z51s would be your best bet and that C6Z bars will be too much in the rear.

I'm currently running a 275front and 305 rear with my stock C5Z bars. If I was to upgrade would a C6Z bar be good or just go for T1's?

Default GM T1 Package

SCCA has a showroom stock catagory, for road racing, called T-1. This allows competitors to install the factory GM Performance Parts T-1 package, which includes better shocks, larger sway bars, heavier springs, and a transmission cooler. However, once you have committed to this kind of racing, your car isn't really streetable, in my opinion. The T-1 is for road racing.

The current C6 Z51 or Z06 makes more sense for street/autocrossing.
T-1 Performance Parts are hugely expensive for most of us.

I hope this is helpfull.
