Default Question... Changing Oil Sensor & Intake

Hi All,

After 2 years without a Vette, I'm back with a 1999 convertble.

My IP analog oil gauge says 80psi and the DIC says 160psi, so I figure the oil pressure sensor under the intake manifold is the culprit. I found so much on this topic, but I still have a couple general questions.

1) Is one brand sensor any more reliable than another?

2) Is there an intake manifold gasket I should replace? Or reuse the original one? Or does it even have one? There is no mention of it.

3) While I have the intake manifold off, is there anything else I should replace as easy-preventative-maintenance?

4) If I swap the LS1 intake with an LS6, is everything else reused and mounted identically, or must I modify or replace other parts?

5) Where is the best place to buy a new LS6 intake manifold cheap, and what gaskets must also be purchased? Is there a kit available cheap?

I don't want to put a whole lot of money for a few more HP and torque, but would if reasonable.

Some claim there is a difference, but new brass ones have failed as well. I purchased a GM unit(aluminum body) going on two years now.

Not sure where you are looking.....it's step #1 in the service manual.

Inspect the knock sensor harness. Apply RTV around the knock sensor connector covers. Verify voltage and ground before replacing the sensor.

Yes, you have to replace the coolant bleed pipe with rear block offs and a front crossover, or hack up the bottom of the LS6 intake.

You can find them in the parts section all the time. Gaskets available at the dealer. If you buy a new intake, gaskets are included.

FWIW I'd cut the ribs off the bottom of the LS6 intake. I think the cooling tubes help with #7 cooling. No proof, just theory.

You can use a grinder or clip them off.

Be careful with the vacuum line re-attachment to the MAP sensor. You AC won't work correctly if you don't reattach. It's too short to reattach until intake is in place, but hard to reach once it is. Some extend it.

Intake manifold gaskets can be reused if you inspect them, but local parts stores carry replacements (I'd go with Fel-pro brand).

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago, received a lot of help. I am about to replace my sensor Thursday and I am going to install an LS6 intake manifold. I paid $57 from the dealer to get the "Coolant bypass".
I believe that is all that you will need. PM me and I will let you know how my turns out on Thursday.
