gto spares for c5
Further answers and info I think would be a benifit to all of us, whether we decide to carry one of these spares or not...
Padrino
on this GTO spares for C5's issue and have come up with the following which I hope may help those looking for a solution to the spare tyre problem. I have fitted an alloy wheel, this one, for a Holden Monaro…

which I obtained from here http://www.nvu.com.au/specials.php?page=4
The seller is also listed on Australian eBay as COMMODORE/MONARO GENUINE 17" ALLOY SPACE SAVER WHEEL

It’s from a Holden HSV Monaro which is the same as the GTO space saver spare.
This wheel came with a 145/70-17 Goodyear tire which is 24.99 inches in diameter.
I obtained a space saver tire for a standard model Holden Monaro which is a Goodyear 155/80-17.
Which ever wheel you use, this is the tire you need for correct rear diameter.
This tire is 26.76 inches in diameter. The C5 rear 275/40-18 is 26.66 inches in diameter.
One tenth inch difference is acceptable.
When fitted to the GTO/HSV spare wheel which has the center hole turned out to 72mm to clear the hub spigot on the C5,
there is no issue with diameter for the rear differential, there is clearance for the calipers, and the stud issue is acceptable
for low speed, short distance emergency use. PCD- (pitch circle diameter is the imaginary circle that passes thru the
centre of the wheels mounting holes) is 5 on 120.65mm (4.75") for Corvettes. Holdens use 5 on 120 mm (4.724"). This slight
difference should be safe for use as above but I would not overtighten my lug nuts, which many people are guilty of. I am
sure many have been stuck in the boonies with a wheel wrench trying to undo lugnuts tightened by some tire tech with a
rattle gun turned up full.
I hope I never have to use it but if I do I have my Porsche 928 jack which fits under my car with a flat tire, a wheel and tire
combo that fits, won't fry the clutches in my diff, doesn't need spacers and will get me to a better location. I think this is a
viable option to the slime/goo cans and plug kits. The only downside is it takes up some room in my trunk and there is barely
enough space for the top when lowered. You just may have to fit the flat in the passenger seat and make your girlfriend walk.

Relevant tire sizes are as follows:
Stock: 245/45/17 - dia = 25.68” 275/40/18 - dia = 26.66”
Space Saver: 155/80 - dia = 26.76” (Standard Holden Monaro) 145/70 - dia = 24.99” (Holden HSV)
