Anyone install a cam on a C5? I am a pretty accomplished mechanic and wondering if this is something I should tackle. How difficult is the install?
If you have done a cam install in other engines with the motor in the car, you shouldnt have too many problems. You do have to remove quite a few things off the front of the engine to get at the timing gears and cam, but its more time consuming than it is difficult.
The most anoying part of the cam change is changing the valve springs with the heads still on the motor. I know this usually takes longer than the actual install of the cam.
ARE has just put together a cam-only package for LS1s that consists of a custom grind camshaft, comp cams pushrods and valve springs. Email me if you need any more info.
Thats what I want to hear. :yesnod: I want to install Long tubes, cam, and an underdrive pulley. Hopefully 40-50rwhp for 1600. :smash: With the proper cam, underdrive pulley, headers, and the newer(Z06) intake manifold I bet you could get 40 RWHP.2thdr and a few others have used this combination and gotten great results.
I picked up 43 rwhp with a cam, L/T's and pulley. The LS-6 intake was on back order, it could possibly net 8-10 more with tuning! I ain't complaining! :) :) :)
Rhys, would you please post the link on the cam install when you find it? My son (with me looking on!) will tackle this job this summer, so would like to have the link as info in case we run into any trouble.
Nice to see somebody actually uses my ls1.fbody.com site!
Hey, so whats the deal....does the front suspension need to be dropped for a cam install on a C5 or what? I dont have my C5 yet (its 2400 miles away from me!) so I havent had the chance to peer into the engine bay just yet. I may want to do a cam and pulley swap on it...just wondering who has actually done this on a C5. F-bodies are a slightly different beast of course.
