I started hearing a popping sound a couple weeks ago. I first thought it was the tires flinging small rocks against the bottom of the car but now that it's gotten worse I can tell that it's not.
I happens most often when I increase or decrease throttle, or when there is a shift in power to the rear wheels. My best guess from inside the car is that it's coming from the rear wheels or transmission, or perhaps something in the power tube.
I did get a rear brake job a month back, should I have them checked? Anybody else experience this?
Suggest checking torque on Rear Axle nuts. They have a tendancy to loosen up. you Get a pop or clunk when changing direction, starting out etc. Several write ups on here on how to do it. Involves removing nut, greasing the splines on axle shaft and re-torque. Easiest check is to see if they are loose by using torque wrench set to proper torque and see if they are tight. Just remove center cap from wheel and put socket on the nut. Believe it's a 23 or 24 mm nut and the Torque is about 130 ft lbs.

Thanks much for the input. I'm going to take it back to the dealer now. I had friend who is pretty good with cars listen as I started to drive away and he said it was coming from the wheel. He said it felt like the brake pad was loose and made a clicking sound when jiggled.
It does indeed sound like a wheel, brake pad or both which is much better than a tranny.
Thanks again, the folks on this forum are awesome!
Brakes were okay. Service rep said there is a tech bulletin from Chevy stating to the effect that the popping is a "feature".
He said he could replace the part for $200 but could not guarantee that it would solve the problem.
That's why I check this forum!!!
I'll take your info to somebody I trust. Thanks again!
When I bought the car it had been lowered. I printed the instructions on how to raise the car using the adjutments but instead they told me it would cot $3800 to fix. Midway Chevrolet in Phoenix is no place to go! I took it to my guy and he put on a set of the original lenght bolts and adjusted the height. Total cost, $85.
