Need help, With the car off or on when I turn the headlight switch to the on position, the doors open, & the headlights come on but not the dash lights or tail lights. With the headlights in auto mode when it gets dark enough outside the headlights come on as well as the dash & tail lights. What do you think is my problem.

Yep,
95% probability it's the multi function switch. I had the exact same symptoms and the multi function switch fixed it. Numerous other people have had the same symptoms (no dash lights, no tail lights but head lights come on) It's a expensive sucker too. Do a search, there was a member that rebuilt his multi function switch successfully and did a write up on it.
You can easily do it yourself. Remove the clam-shell over the steering wheel(Screws on the bottom), then you can see how its held on. I think it was two screws but I don't remember now if it was torx or phillips or what. It took me all of about 30 minutes to replace it and no, I did not have to remove the steering wheel.
I have a different headlight problem with one of my Vettes
On my 1999 vette the headlights do not pop up unless I bring the car inside. If I take it out side they do not pop up. What could be the problem? I have many Vettes and this older one we just got. Any ideas?

Headlights in auto-mode? Do I have this feature on my 04 Z?

You may have confused some by posting in this thread what apparently is a completely different problem.
First you must be more specific with details as to what is or isn’t happening when you do “this or that”.
Does your car have the Twilight Sentinel option (T82) Look at the glove box door sticker for option T82.
Are you saying that the headlight doors don’t work with the stalk switch but do work automatically through the Twilight Sentinel system?
Pull the codes through the DIC above the steering column. Always a good idea to have the trouble codes ready when asking for help on this forum.
