(best to build your drive trane first before adding HP)
If he was going to go to 3.42 gears and he has 3.15- don t you think the money would be better spent on something else than that small increase in acceleration that 3.42 s give. And i didn t say not to "Build his drivetrain", that s a given, Cocky! Not everyone wants to run 9s and run out of gear at 1320 ft.!(as i assume you do)
I would go with a Yank SS3800 & 3:73 gears for your current mods.
I never said the op should go with 3:42's. Yes I agree going from 3:15's to 3:42's aren't worth it. But staying with 3:15's isn't going to help the op reach his goal of running in the 11's without a power adder.
Correct, I wouldn't spend money going to 3.42's. My initial question was going for 4.11 gears. Arguments against that include my short tires, running out of revs in third and shifting up to fourth on nitrous, and getting the car to launch in its power band. I agree I'll leave the 3.15 alone and go for a better converter. See how the car hooks and goes, then try a small 100-150 shot to get it into the 10's.
Yeah, it ll no longer be a soft spot after i take it to the track..the first day i finished my forged 427/Spec clutch/new tranny& diff install, i was so excited that i literally floored it within the first 20ft!! Needless to say, the dyno showed a slipping clutch and it has only gotten so bad that i couldn t hardly climb a hill on the highway without it "downshifting"(its a 6spd), especially in higher gears. Well i just installed a new clutch a couple of days ago and AFTER i break in this clutch ill dyno-tune it and then get it ready for the track. I already have skinnys for the front and Mickeys for the back.....And i ran the line for my nitrous bottle. So, i hope around 800rwhp(estimated-600na+200nitrs) will get me down the track pretty fast. My only real thing that i HAD to do was install 3.15s+DTE brace, cause i like topend brawls the best! 4DRush- You re the man on 1/4 mile, i have no arguments here! Nevermind my Bipolar outbursts!! (its like having Turrets syndrome) Peace-Jason
Thats what I was thinking. Also, its easier to drop the differential than changing the converter
I don't know if you have looked, but the tranny and converter come down with the diff. Labor to change the converter and new fluid run $100 or less with the drive train dropped. By the way, your 3:15s are worth about what you would pay for a set of used 3:42s which will be a low enough gear unless you plan on mostly drag racing your car.
