Looked under the car today and saw that the bellhousing (at least thats what I think its called) is cracked. I took the rubber gromet off and also found a piece of metal inside which seems to be a part from were the one of the bolts bolt in. It doesn't look like its cracked that bad, it doesn't go all the way up and around, its only to one part of it. And it seems that only one bolt is affected. Would it be okay to continue to drive the car this way or should I replace the housing. I might do it just to be on the safe side when I do headers but until then should I be okay. Im just worried that the torque tube or what its called with not spin correctly and will starts grinding away teeth. Any input would be appreciated. I tried to take pictures but didn't have much room.
With your mods, I can't imagine what would crack the case except jacking it in the wrong area or a casting flaw. With an A4, you generaly don't get wheel hop even on street tires. I would definely replace it. This is the time to think about gears and a converter if you have the need as they have to drop the diff anyway. Good luck.
The thing is that I don't have the funds to do all that right now. I do plan on it but I thought I would just do it all at once. Do you think its going to be okay to just drive it around with the crack. I do have a homemade drag pack with et streets on the rear which I wanted to use at the track. Is it wise to launch on those with this cracked housing? I havn't used them yet so it can't be from me launching it.
dont go to the track knowing you have a crack you will only end up oiling track down and pissing people off. fix it you know its broke. i had crack ,in my case and it blew driving a conservative 55mph down highway blew hole out the side pf tranny case
If you are going to drive it, you better drive it like your grandmother!
If you break it while driving it will take out more EXPENSIVE parts than just the housing.
man this sucks, I need to drive the car still but I'd hate to take everything apart and not do stall and rear at this time cause of the funds.
anybody have a good how to on getting this replaced?
im not planning on any serious racing. Just maybe go down to the track a few times. But I am going to wait until I get the bell housing replaced to go to the track. The thing is I would like to continue driving the car until I have funds for stall, headers, and rear so that I can tackle it all at once. So would it be okay to just drive the car until that time with this crack.

What don't get you get. The structural integrity of the drive line is damaged.
^^ I got it man, I said im not going to the track until I get this resolved. I just want to drive it on the street like a grandma for a few weeks until I can come up with the cash to do the other mods.

Keep it mind, the torque tube is bolted to the bell housing. Any excessive torque and the bell housing will most likely
crumble. Another good jolt and the trans twists, breaking the rear case, than the trans shaft, than the trans case. Mean while the debris from the bell housing gets lodged in the fly wheel and bends the engine crank shaft and cracks the block. If you can live with that, go ahead and drive your car. But take it easy.
