I am changing the idler pulleys to stop the squeaking and the books all show the same pulley for drive belt and ac belt (Gates 38006) the drive belt pulley looks and fits the same but the ac pulley is larger than the original and seems to be too big to mount without hitting the water pump housing. I have recently changed the water pump but it was a gm original part. I am stuck at this point and not sure how to proceed. The GM parts book on Alldatadiy also seems to show the same pulley for both. Has anyone else had this issue ??? BTW the car is a 99 LS1 convertible all stock.

I just swapped my AC idler pulley and tensioner pulley...now those 2 are definitely the exact same PN and work fine but I bought mine at Autozone.
I also am running a stock LS1 with GM water pump and everything but are you sure you're referring to the AC IDLER PULLEY and not the main belt drive idler pulley?
Is it straight down under the power steering reservoir or over on the PS side down by the AC compressor?
The AC idler and tensioner pulleys are the same diameter.
I just went and re-read through your post and I also just swapped my main belt idler pulley and swapped the tensioner pulley a couple of months ago...I'm pretty sure that they WERE NOT the same.

Yes I'm sure because I am changing both. Mine are definitely not the same. I found an alternate pulley at Advance that is exactly like the one I took off. It is smaller in diameter and thinner than the main drive pulley. It was listed as the "Compressor Drive Idler pulley in their computer and is Mfg by Dayco. Thanks for your help. BTW The squeaking is gone for now !!!
