Default Custom air intake

Anyone here done a ram air or custom intake? I dont think the Halltechs, blackwings, ect...get much air flow in there, even with the shroud cut.

Has anyone made a ram air duct? I was thinking about one of those front plates with the opening on them, but I think that look is to much for my front end

You should be more specific with your questions because now I have absolutely no idea what you are looking for. The Vararavm is a direct "Ram Air" intake that plumbs to the area around your fog lights and DIRECTLY to the intake.

Kinda hard to get any more direct than that.

im thinking of something custom. Ive installed 3 vararams and not a big fan.

or maybe Im just bored and want to engineer something up in the boring winter months

I was thinking something that went from the brake ducts, or a custom trap under the car...do we need the middle air dam for the intake, or the radiator? I know if you remove it, we overheat, or something like that

I have your answer here:

http://www.conceptualpolymer.com/corvette_c5_corner.htm

Check out "Cold air modification for Halltech Stinger and Blackwing-equipped C5s"

My setup has been working great for years and the only change I've done was to use some RTV on the scoop flanges. This spreads out the stresses generated from air pressure in the scoop. Radiator cooling has been just fine, so don't worry about that. I even measured intake air temps before and after the mod. In some cases, the temps dropped 40 degrees F under the same conditions. Bringing cold air in makes a substantial difference, since you can lose 10+ HP when the engine bay heat-soaks. The other nice thing about this setup is that my engine bay stays cool - so important when you want electronics, hoses, belts and plastic components last as long as possible. With a Vararam and headers, the typical engine bay is cooking up some very high temps - no thanks!

I have had this done for a while...except the only difference is I dont have the wall shelf mount thing in.

so, instead of leaving the filter there, i am thinking of sticking the filter, through the shroud and having it expossed in front of the shroud.

but you have taken off the lower front air dams?

Just move the entire air filter to the front of the license plate and do the Ziptie mod--leave the air dams on--

I hear this is what Halltech did many years ago and quickly pulled it from the market when some people hydrolocked their engines. Doing this will bring the filter too close to the ground....and puddles and rocks, etc.

No, I have not taken off the front air dam.
