I was thinking about removing my mufflers :smash: Is it okay to remove the mufflers? If I do, will I lose H.P.? Will it trigger any codes to go off in the computer of the car? Please give me some feed back- I would greatly appreciate it. This is a 2000 corvette by the way. Thanks.
Justin

I am using the PIPES part of the XR-1 kit with no mufflers. I have had them installed for over 6 months now, bought them from C5Noir.
I saw no improvement, or penalty in my 1/4 mile times.
I bought the pipes because it was a bolt on swap, easy to try out.
The exhaust drones a lot between 1700-2500 rpm, which is most of my driving on the highway. I'm selling the Borla pipes soon and putting on Corsa Indys.
Needless to say its pretty loud, but I never had any codes or issues.
I run the SLP Loudmouth exhaust. It's got a great 60s muscle car rumble at start up, cruise and idle, and when you go wide open throttle, it's LOUD!!!... think top fuel dragster ;)
Sure, like any straight pipe, it resonated between 2500 and 3000, but I never cruise in that range so who gives a sh... :D
Later.. you guys can keep your Corsas, I gotta go set off a few car alarms!

Just don't remove everything. You do need to replace the rear setup with some kind of exhaust that exits out the back of the car . I believe the rear leaf spring would not be able to handle the heat from the exhaust pipe blowing directly on it. :smash:
i had my mufflers removed and straight-piped into custom tips. i DID pick up power. i was able to definitely feel SOTP power!! in fact, there was a post on exhausts that linked to articles that show the only exhaust mod (other than headers) that increases hp is removing the stock mufflers. (well, B&B PRT's claim to be the only aftermarket muffler to add/free-up hp). i attribute my much of my 12.6x n/a 1/4 mile runs to this mod. i have been driving my 2001 since nearly new like this. i love the agressive note. it gets a lot of attention. many people says it sounds great. well, very recently i had been pulled over by police. long story short, they said that what caught their attention was the sound of my exhaust. one can literally hear me from 1 mile away. so, i have decided against w and have ordered the PRT Triflo's. :( to keep the local gendarme off my ****. my sig shows this mod.
if you do it, you will get more power
You do the slight loss of backpressure, so that takes some getting used to, but I had the off road H-pipe on my mustang so Im used to it. Might not notice it with a A4.
I just put on the SLP Loudmouth which are strait pipes and it is loud. Don’t know if I got any hp but it does sound good. Loud in the car also. :yesnod:
I would like to thank every body for there post. I guess I will be cutting them off this weekend or if I find a good deal on a XR-1 Borla then I will go that route. I know I will enjoy the car so much more when I get this finished. :smash: An thanks again to all that posted...
