Default Starter or charging problems - corrosion?

Does anyone have a starter or charging problem. Mine was all about the wire terminal corrosion. After replacing the alternator on my 98 DD the charging problem didn't go away. I found a loose connection on the starter and that was it. 2 months later it would not start after I stopped for gas. AAA to my shop. Pulled the starter after dropping the exhaust, the terminal ends were a mess. It does have 197,000 miles and I live on the beach. Salt air is so tough here they say even plastic will rust around the ocean. The starter tested good but I replaced it anyway after dropping the exhaust and figuring it was due based on the mileage. Has anyone had such corrosion problems?

Yes!!! Its very common. You need to use a corrosion preventative compound on your electrical connections and grounds. I strongly checking and cleaning your connections and grounds and treating them to a good dose of compound. Here is one that I use and it works very well. Its Corrosion X

There are more out there, check the local car parts stores.
