Default Re: LS6 Intake on a 2002 Coupe (allanlaw)

I was at the Magnaflow Dyno Day in September and Charlie Hoyt's Dyno Day a couple weeks ago. The only changes made to my '98 generally stock car were the addition of the 2002 Z06 airbox cover, a new stock paper filter and the WCC cold air screens. For dyno purposes, I think we can ignore the cold air screens. Both dynos were Dynojets and the numbers SAE corrected. The maximum HP increased from 294 to 308, TQ from 307 to 323 (the CF was 0.96 on the higher numbers, don't know what it was at the Magnaflow event). Also, the torque curve was much flatter. Not bad for a $45 mod and a $12 air filter.
When I was saying 1-3 hp I was comparing the 2001 and 2002 airboxes. The 2001 box is a bit better than the 2000 and earlier version so it stands to reason that you would see more of a gain. C5INBLU dynoed his 2001 with the air hole cutout to match the 2002. His car produced 312 rwhp, which is normal for a stock 2001 (mine base lined at 314). So, I think the 2002 airbox lid is a better mod for 97-00 cars than for 01's: Your numbers certainly seem to support that. A minor point though, after talking to a few of the people at the Magnaflow dyno day I came away believing that the Magnaflow dyno was a few hp lower than R&D. Still at the very worse you still got a heck of a gain from a $45 mod.
