disc changer skips...is this common? fixable?

In my 98 I was quite happy because it rarely skipped. My truck cd player skips when I run over an extension cord though. Thanks dodge... Anyway, maybe I just got lucky with my changer or I hardly ever ran over bumps. Never really paid that much attention because I didn't need to.
I installed an aftermarket CD player anyway. And anyone doing so PLEASE just wait till you can afford the deck, a 4 channel amp, and the amp kit. Because you WILL lose all your base (and your changer) if you replace your stock deck. You can get the sven2 but you still won't have much base because aftermarket decks just don't put out the power for the stock subs.
