The tempurature display on my 2003 does not come up to full intensity. Sometimes it gets bright enough to read, but then fades away. I called the parts department of the dealership where I take my car for oil changes and other maintenance. I was told the display (and probably the printed circuit board) costs $510 + labor. Does anyone know where I can get this part?
contact Jhonathan at JW motoring...I just sent my G/Fs HVAC headunit to his guy to fix the display...$50 included shipping back to me...I should have it Wed.
and you can feel free to send me a check for the money you saved
$50 is a good deal but you can do it yourself. It's not hard if you follow the directions posted in the forum. Look up "C5 Climate Control dim/dark display fix". It took me about an hour or so.
Just in case, does the radio and dic display also fade away at the same time? If so, its a different problem. If just the hvac control, there are micro-resistors on the circuit board inside that need to be resoldered.

true...I considered that but with my luck I would F it up and have to buy a new one...I know my limits

Two excellent points... If you're at all experienced in solder SMDs or even components on PCBs by all means do it yourself. There's nothing more satisfying then fixing it yourself and saving a ton of money to boot. BUT if you haven't soldered before I recommend seaking a pro to do the fix for you, there's nothing more equally unsatisfying as screwing up a repair attempt and it ends up costing you a ton of money!
Hey I fixed mine,,and if I can do it almost anyone can!!Get a littl pen tip soldering iron though,,I tried one of those "cold tip" things they used to advertise on TV. Now I know why they don't advertise them any more,,they SUCK!! If I'd kept my receipt I'd have taken it back to Wally World!!
this is a writeup i did for another site i'm on. Feel free to check it out and try it. I "believe" the placement of the "Chips" you resolder may be slightly off and somebody can highlight that if it is. Ignore the bulb replacement part of it. You just need the display dim fix. Mine used to fade in and out as well then it just totally went out. Now it's as good as new
