Default Hardwire radar detector to mirror

I'm hardwiring my radar detector to my rearview mirror on my C5. Can someone tell me which wire is switched hot? I assume the black wire is ground, but there are 5 or 6 other wires to choose from for the hot wire. Naturally, I want it to be the one that becomes hot with the key turned on.

Don't you have a electrical tester? Most householders have bought a cheapo one for some project. If not, they're only about 10 bucks, and you'll need it again.

Duh. Thanks for stating the obvious. I don't know what I was thinking. I have multimeter. I guess I was just looking for an easy way out. I found the brown wire to be switched with the ignition. Thanks again for pulling my head out for me.

It's an '04. It is switched. I found it to be the brown wire...combined with the black for ground.

No problem. I looked at the same thing a few years ago, when I did mine. The brown wire is the same one I used (IIRC) but it will cycle off when you shift to reverse.

The standard c5 mirror: orange wire hot and black wire ground,
The autodim mirror: brown wire hot and orange wire (2nd wire in) is ground
Hope this helps

For the Electrochromatic mirror the orange wire is not a ground, here is the pin out.

If you are holding the mirror, looking at the back of it, the connector should be numbered 1-7, starting near the middle and going outward towards the outer edge of the mirror. The wires should be inserted like so:

1 = Brown (Hot from headlight switch)
2 = Black (Ground)
3 = no wire
4 = no wire
5 = no wire
6 = Orange 2 (Hot from the door switch)
7 = Orange 1 (Hot all the time)
