I have been experiencing a pinging or knocking under full throttle accelleration. The pinging is a fluttering sound that occurs as I reach the top of the power band. I can also duplicate the sound by lugging the car in a high gear with full throttle. It is odd, because it sounds as if the pinging is coming from the rear. Does "normal" engine knock show itself in this way? I have tried a few different gas stations to see if the brand of gas would help, but it does not seem to effect the noise. Any input is appreciated...

Have you pulled the codes to see if any are set? The computer should compensate for ping (detonation) if it is detected .. The conditions you describe under which you hear the noise do sound like pinging.
sounds like genuine knock to me!! i've been there. you're in Ca using that 91 gas, right? well, there are a couple ways to check this. 1) hook up a scanner such as Autotap or ScanEase to see if you're getting KR. 2) buy a few gallons of Toluene ro Xylene and mix with a full tank of gas. drive a while to see if this noise is gone. the toluene will effectively increase you octane several points. so if you determine that you have knock, you need to figure why you are producing it (bad sensor somewhere, bad gas, running hot, etc)
