On my 2000 coupe one of the RKE's is not working. I replaced the battery and went through the learning and synchronization process as described in the owner's manual. It works fine for about 5 minutes, then goes dead. Is there another battery that retains the memory? I didn't see one other than the large CR2450. Anyone know of another programming tip that isn't in the manual? Those little stinkers are pricey from the Chevy store.
This is a common problem as these fobs age. Sometimes a component on the circuit board looses electrical connection. Do a search and you will find many threads that discuss this problem.
Also be sure that the car’s battery is strong enough that the voltage doesn’t drop below around 9.5 volts when cranking, etc.
If you need to purchase a replacement contact forum vender Gene Culley at http://www.gmpartshouse.com/for best price.

I agree totally. The fobs appear to have a lifetime as such and eventually die. GM refuses to divulge who the manufacturer is and unless you've got a cracked connection on one of the IC's inside, you're out of luck and will have to buy new ones. Gene Culley is the best person to buy these from.
Thank you for your prompt replies. I'm going to present your replies to the selling dealer to see if he will spring for a new one. If that doesn't work, I'll order one from Gene Culley.
I am having a similar problem. did you get yours figured out?
I had both of my original 2000 fob's die on me at approx the same time. one was the primary and the other was almost brand new (used only as a spare by me and the original owner).
I bought a brand new fob less than a year ago and I am having the same problems now. Even with the new fob it has had problems staying synced. About once every three months or so I have had to resync it and I have changed the battery twice now.
All of a sudden it stopped working and I was unable to re-sync it. so I changed the battery (2nd time in less than a year) again. now it "tries" to resync (i.e. I go through the steps sometimes I get the beeps, sometimes the doors just unlock or lock). Once I have resynced it I test it and it works. I come back as soon as one minute later and it will again not work. I feel it is not properly resyncing.
Please help me. I am down to my last nerve on this. My next step is to put in aftermarket keyless entries but then I am sure I will have a migraine figuring out how to sync the aftermarket system with the existing systems (e.g motorized chair, radio setup, etc.)
If you have any advice it would be appreciated
Manny
