Default Fluid change??

I have 17,000 miles on my 01 Vette. When should I change the fluids?
ie Coolent , Brake, Power steering. I changed the tranny at 13,000 when it neded to be rebuilt and the Diff when I swapped in 3:73 gears.

Thanks
Fred

Default Fluid changing

You're due. Brake and clutch fluid, coolant at least. I'm assuming you have a manual trans. Unless you have a remote clutch bleeder--or you want to do some serious disassembly--you can't bleed the clutch slave cylinder, but getting the old fluid out of the clutch master, cleaning it and refilling with fresh will help. Best to do the clutch a couple of times until the fluid stays clear. C5s use DOT 3 or 4 brake and clutch fluid and it really should be changed every couple of years. Replacing your brake caliper bleed screws with valved screws ("Speed Bleeders) will make the brake fluid replacement a one-person job in case you don't want to draft your wife or a kid for pedal pressing. Cost about $20 for 4. Fresh Dex-Cool or equivalent coolant should be good for 3-5 years--draining the old coolant with the car nose-down and reservoir tank cap off will get a gallon or more out--you could do it twice if you're ****. Would be better to drain the block of coolant but I'm not sure if that is possible on the C5; I see a big brass hex-head thingy on the side of the block but I haven't been brave enough to try and remove it--maybe other forum members will know more. Don't know how often power steering fluid should be changed but as your car is now about 8 years old it couldn't hurt. Good luck.
