Default ? for welding x-pipe...

I want to weld the x-pipe in place. What type of weld should be used? Is MIG with argon gas ok? Thanks

Has anyone heard cars with the same exhaust, the other with the weld X-pipe and the other with the corsa X-pipe? Are the sounds different? If they are, which one's better? And Why do you think so? How about HP gains?

Thank you :D

I'm not sure about the differences..I'm using a magnaflow x-pipe, I can say it has a true X crossover, unlike some of the others

Mig (metal inert welding) is fine for exhaust systems. Argon is a inert gas that squeezes the arc to produce a hotter arc. If you can find a mixture of C02/Argon or just 100% C02 you will be fine. I like the FCAW (Flux core arc welding) process. Its the same machine but the wire has flux embbedded in the wire so you do not need to have a inert gas. Have fun!

Hi 3Vettes.

I went through a really bad experience with X-Pipe welding. Hopefully my thread(s) will help you out.

I think I removed the pics since the time I posted the threads, but hopefully the text will help.

Eventually, I'll get another X-Pipe installed, and welded correctly.

Regards,
TargaC5

NO NO NO!!!! That's not why I posted my story. Just make sure that the place you have the cutting/welding done at knows what they're doing. I'm still going to get another X-Pipe in the future, and I will be getting it welded (correctly this time). I'm also going to have my Corsa Indy exhaust welded where the rear section clamps to the part with the mufflers. Good luck!
