My stock LS6 clutch with 55k on it starting to have alot of chatter. Is there an adjustment to make to stop this or should I just accept that it is time for a new one? What do many think of the RPS dual friction clutch and flywheel?

Have you put the vehicle on a lift and removed the bell housing inspection cover to get a side view of the PP and friction plate? Should be able to determine the remaining thickness of the friction material.

The RPS DF unit including the aluminum segmented flywheel is a very good product. I have had this installed on a H/C modded C5 for about one year. Vehicle is a daily driver and this clutch has been through several HPDEs and a closed-course hillclimb (many runs) and continues to work well. The lighter weight assembly truly does allow the engine to spool up and down quicker considerably improving engine response and up/down shifting. The manufacturer does indicate torque/horsepower limits so consider your application accordingly. Please note, I have found the cerametalic friction material type disc is best if not slipped excessively for smooth engagement and longevity. Not an "on/off" style but don't expect the forgiveness of a stock clutch by any means. The precise positive clamping force is well worth the tradeoff.

No doubt, there are other similar units that offer lighter weight low inertia properties too -- search here and at http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/manual-transmission-14/ for comments from users if you haven't already done so. Also, I would keep in mind the typical use of the vehicle which may indicate simply re-installing a new LS6 unit and flywheel that have served you well and still remains an excellent clutch assembly and reasonably priced.

Lastly, recommend all of your hydraulics be replaced along with the pilot bearing and especially install a remote bleed line. Don't know the age of your vehicle but the propeller shaft rubber couplers are accessable too so perhaps you want to inspect/replace those at this time (might save a redo). Didn't want to heap more on you or be redundant but, the job is labor intensive and best to bite the bullet and do all at once...my opinion only, of course. Good luck whichever route you go...

Thanks for the response. Has anyone here had any problems with the an RPS clutch exploding. They recommend a bullet proof bellhousing if going over the 6700 rpm rev limit on a Z or it could explode. Any comments.
