Default Water Pump Question

I'm pretty sure mine has started to weep a little. I'm getting a very slight belt squeak on cold starts. It looks like an easy enough job.

I have an '02, but I hear people recommending the 04+ pumps because they don't use the (expensive) integrated water neck + t-stat? So if I go this route, I'm assuming I'll also need to pick up a new water neck and t-stat? Is that correct?

TIA

Correct. Separate housing/stat, etc. but it's LS3 pump that seems to be the way to go from all I'm hearing. Better impeller design, lighter, etc. and direct bolt-up.

Give Bob Wendorff, at Fichtner Chev (forum vendor), a call at 1-800-234-5284. You will be favorably impressed with the pricing and they DO NOT gouge you on shipping costs.

The new style replacement pumps from GM come complete with the thermostat and housing installed. Just bolt the pump on.

That's a good point. I forgot about that. I'm so used to Generous Motors selling everything a la carte for year after year.
The LS3 pump still appears to be the way to go though.

Gotcha

Yep, I found a few more old posts suggesting the 05+ LS2 pumps. Is that the same part number as the 08 LS3 pump? It does look to be a better design. I like the smaller bell.

I think the 2 and the 3 pumps are different part numbers. Nice thing about the LS family is the interchangeability of a lot of the various parts though; just like in the days of the old cast-iron small blocks. I'm using the newer designed metal (with "spokes") LS2 styled p/s pump pulley for example. Also a direct fit replacement.

Call Bob. He's very Corvette knowledgeable and can help you out.

The new style LS3 pump has recently become the standardized GM replacement for all LSx Corvette engines. It comes with a 187 degree thermostat and housing.

I wouldn't go that far, perhaps for Corvettes. The F-body, GTO and CTS-V require that larger bell for their different belt configurations.

Ahh good deal ... I'm showing the same part # from gmpartsdirect for 05-08. So I think I'm good.

Do you know whether the LS3 pump flows more or at least more equally between the two sides?
