I'll be taking my car to IPS Motorsports on Friday for a catback swap and for them to do a few other smalls things. I also told them that the car runs rich and I would like them to possible touch up the tune. They quoted me $450 for the dyno tuning. My questions are: 1. Is this worth the cost of possibly no gains and maybe only a slight tweaking? 2. Should I just deal with the running rich and spend the $450 elsewhere?
The car is a heads/cam forged internals '99. The previous owner stated that Vette Doctors performed the tune but had no proof. What do you guys think?
If it has already been tuned by a reputable tuner then a follow-up tune will likely only yield marginal results. However, if you have specific issues to address (running rich), then those can be addressed.
The price may be a little high considering the majority of the tuning for the H/C has already been done and you are only looking for a touch up.
Perhaps vette doctors would revise your tune for less $$.

They may but that would be atleast a ten hour trip for me whereas IPS is only two. Plus, I have no way of proving to Vette Doctors that they tuned the car. The individual that I purchased the car from had no dyno sheets from them.
I can only speak for EFILIVE tunes but I'm sure HP is the same--Whenever a tune is downloaded the software will SAVE the VIN # and much of the manufacture details ( trans, eng, plant, etc-) If Vette Dr's did the tune they more than likely still have it and could find it via your VIN #--Many tuners will save both your stock tune and your re-tune indefanately--For some time on their computer and then eventually put them on a disc for safe keeping---I'm sure if they did it they would re-examine your fuel trims and your WOT AFR for a minimal fee ---less than $450

I would have it done at IPS after the catback swap. Since you have no proof that the tune is really good...get it done and have a good baseline. Don't want to take chances with a tune that is off!
^ I kinda agree with the above post Jeremy. I have been thinking about it since we talked yesterday. IPS has proven they can tune a car, I think they have the "world's fastest C6 Z06" record, with 2 cars that have put down over 1100rwhp.
I would just start from square 1 and have them re-tune the car, true, it might not take as much effort as it would be to tune from the stock baseline tune, but I think your car would definately benefit from it though!!
Its probably worth the piece of mind to have them tune the car. You won't constantly be worrying about the car after you know for certain the tune is correct.
Save a hundred or so and just have them tune it on the street...unless that 450 includes some drivability adjustments.
Yes, he said that due to me not being able to pick it up until some time next week that it will give him an opportunity to spend more time on the drivability aspects of the tune. The $450 also includes a video of my car being dynoed. Just a cool extra bonus.

What were the results? i want pics, dyno video, dyno graphs, interviews with tuner, plenty of fish, etc etc

Got the car back and it is a different car. Responsive as hell but a smooth power delivery. It dynoed at 407rwhp with 4.10s and on a dyno that they said reads 20hp less than most. I don't know exactly where that puts me but it runs side by side with other cars that dyno at 450rwhp.
IMO, for folks in the region IPS is the place to go.
