When the fuel gets down to about 1/8 left in the tank the fuel gauge suddenly goes to empty and the warnings are sounded. I still have 70 or more miles left in the tank. Anyone else had this problem?
Common problem with C5's. Do a search and you will find many threads about this issue. Get some techron and use it during your next 2 - 3 fill ups and that should solve your problem.
EXACTLY CORRECT! Couple of treatments with Chevron Techron and your issue should be resolved. I use SHELL Fuel exclusively in my 02 Z and have never had this issue. I had it in my 98 but didnt use shell. Chevron Techron cleaned up the issue in the 98.
IF,,,,,,,,,,,,,two or three treatments of Techron doesnt fix the issue, you may need to remove the sensors (one from each tank) and either manually clean them OR replace them. If you have to replace them, your lucky. GM use to only sell the entire sensor unit (READ $$$$$$$$).
Now they sell the sender sensor replacement part which is much less expensive.
Thanks for the advise..........I use Chevron almost exclusively.....I will add some extra Techron
Check with the dealer ... there was a TSB that reprogrammed the computer to make the fuel gauge system no so sensitive. There is a fuel level sensor in each tank, and they must work in unison to prevent a code from popping up.
Not sure if the TSB applies to all the C5s or not, you'll have to see if the dealer can give you the specifics.
