I was wondering if anyone had an experience with smoking through the exhaust after a header install? First of all, right after I installed my Kooks Long Tubes, It smoked and smelled pretty bad. I was pretty sure that this was from the crap in the headers from manufacturing and in the adapters for my cats. (I could see the oil residue in them). It quit smoking after a test drive and I drove the car about 50 miles that day. The car has been under cover in my garage since then and I started it up today to get a video of the exhaust. Smoked like hell, especially when I revved it a bit. Could this still be residual smoke from the headers? I have no codes and I know my MAF sensor is spotless. The only other thing I changed at the time was I added a Vararam.
The car ran great on the test drive and still sounds good. Any help or comments would be appreciated...
I've heard of new tubes having leftover oils and so on in them so its possible they are still buring off. What color is the smoke? Anything else change other than the Vararam? Does this smoke occur all the time as a constant or is it when first pulling off from a stop? When I first saw the title of your thread, I was thinking of valve-stem seals but that will cause smoke when you are pulling off from a stop or first starting up.
The smoke is white and it did seem to diminish somewhat as I let the car warm up more. The other thing is that there's definitely condensation in the exhaust. There is a bit of water dripping from it and also on the tips. Maybe that's all it is...?
This is all occurring, for the most part, at idle and under a slight load while revving the motor.

Sounds more or less normal to me. Suggest you drive it and put 500+ miles on it and then report back........symptoms, you observe, if any.
If it was only water, I would expect it would have been gone pretty fast. White smoke is more indicative of coolant. Watch your coolant level. If its going down, then something more serious has happened.
Saw a Camaro last night on the way home going over a freeway hill. Something on his car let go badly and a massive flood of smoke billowing out from it as he pulled over. The smoke trail was a good quarter mile long and flooded all lanes of the freeway. Felt bad for the dude.
Are you telling me this to make me feel better....?

First of all, it's only 57. But it is nice. Second, I cannot possibly drive the car with all of the crap still on the roads. She'll be out of the garage when they sweep the streets!
I started the car and let the coolant get to about 200 degrees. Zero smoke. I have another clip I'll send you. I asked "Rossi Racing" what they thought and they were curious if it could be the Stabil I put in? I didn't think that would do it, but you never know...Thanks for your help yesterday.
One more thing..."Wanna run that?"
