Tuan, I'm not 100% about this, but without ported heads, you may lose too much back pressure with an off-road x-pipe and see little to none, or even negative gains. A standard x-pipe and hi-flow CATS would probably do you more good, and keep you emissions legal. You may not gain any HP or TQ, but your curve would flow smoother, and probably a bit wider. I would speak to an experienced performance shop before I made the move, IMO.
Tuan Le...Breathless Performance....$129.00 an about $100 for the quality install. If you took a look at my install (on my homepage) you will notice that we mounted it up as close to the headers as possible for optimum torque...:D
JWSchmidt3: Thanks for your advice, I will proceed with caution.:D If I go with the off-road x-pipe, I will sure go the route where it will have the bolt-on flangs where it can be easily swapped back and forth. I've seen TorchTexan's (Josh) dyno graph before and after with just the x-pipe. He picked up almost 20RWHP/TQ down low from 3000RPM to 5000RPM. To me, that is amazing. I didn't even pick up half that much with the TPIS LT.
I just installede TPIS headers and a X pipe on Saturday.
In my application the X pipe did not get rid of the cats. It does replace the stock "H" pipe behind the cats but does add an "H" pipe between the headers and the cats.
With my bolt-on already flirting with 400fwhp, I can't wait to get on a dyno. It is definitly quicker now. It's smoother and more quiet than before also.
You can really feel it using less effort to move it around at normal street speeds too.
JW,
You cannot have too unrestrictive of an exhaust. That is just not possible. If anyone is loosing HP from doing this, they need a program update, that is it.
This is one of the longest standing wives tales (or Cletus tales) about automotive performance. One that should be dispelled. :yesnod:
For those not familair with my dyno graph check the sig. It came out pretty solid... But I will be the first to admit that I will probably do some long tubes and good cats. It really reeks when its hot outside and you get on it alot. Otherwise, bang for buck, its hard to beat. If I was going to do it all over again I would try to get some of those V-Grove clamps FLP and LG uses, mine leak so that may not help things. Then again you could weld them in permantly and that would not be as much of an issue.
