Default HUD question

My 99 did not come with a HUD installed. I was just wondering if the car would allready be wired up for it. If I would get the projector and the control switches would I be able to wire it up or plug and play? Or what all would I have to do to get it to work?

Thanks,
Kevin

I believe you're going to need to pull the dash in order to tell.

The only way to know is to pull the cluster out and see if it has a small ribbon connector on the top edge. You don't need to pull the whole dash cover. BTW, I've got an extra cluster that's hud capable for a '99 that I no longer need. I bought it for my '99 just in case the background illumination ever went out. It was acquired from the usual auction site and I never installed it.

Wanna sell the dimmer switch? I don't need the wiring going to the dimmer. Shoot me a PM if you do.

Thanks for the info everyone. I guess I am going to have to figure out how to pull the dash off sometime this week.

What is the birthday of your car? You may be able to get a good idea from that alone. For reference, mine was built on March 29, 1999 and my IPC was "HUD ready" (HUD compatible). If you have an early '99 (June, July, August, etc of 1998) chances are you will need to get a HUD ready IPC.

If your IPC is HUD ready, all the rest (except for cutting the opening in the dash pad and mounting the projector) is plug and play.

Tip: The old saying about measuring twice and cutting once is more true here than ever. Measure THREE times if necessary because cutting the dash pad is very expensive if you screw up badly. Take your time on that part and you'll be good.

HTH

I'll have to get the box out and see if its attached or not. I'm at work right now so it won't be till tomorrow at the earliest.
