Re: Possible Oil Consumption Solution (MitchAlsup)

Yea, Yea, My 1994,1996 and 1999 Model year Corvettes all came with Mobil 1 and none ever used any oil. Its not the oil.
My MN6 O1 does not use oil. Has 7200 miles on it. I am religous about babying it until the oil temp reaches at least 170 - 180. Having an oil temp readout is very interesting. The oil takes about twice as long to come up to operating temp as the water. Just an observation.
I have heard some say that changing to 10-30w has helped in this, any comments on that????????
My mechanic is of the opinion that tearing down the motor to replace one ring is overkill,
and may cause more problems than it solves.
He has recommended I change to M1 10-30.
Reasoning: 5-30 is too thin for this area. (Realize GM specs one oil for national/international use)
Thin oil is neccessary for colder climes, but gets too thin in temperate/hot zones.
He also said since he started putting in 10-30, most C-X's have stopped or considerably reduced their oil consumption.
