Default FOB Question

Im hoping I am posting this in the right forum. I have a 2000 coupe and was wondering if a 98 passive fob will work with a 2000 coupe?

thanx

I thought it would. I've heard the 2k works on the others, anyway. The 97-99 have the active/passive switch, and the 2k is the same fob without the active/passive. Then in '01 they got smart and went to a cheaper system so the fobs are noticeably cheaper.

I have a similar question. However, in my case, I was wondering if the 2000 fob would work for the 1997-1999 models. The 2000 fobs are cheaper and I don't use the passive mode anyway. It was my understanding that they were interchangeable. Does anyone know for sure?

The 2000 is unique to that MY. And expensive because of it.

The 2000 fob is actually cheaper than the others.

As I said.... Thats a negative... 97-99 interchangable 00 only 01-04 interchangable. - The passive feature isn't all that brother. Both my C5's have it, and the remotes love to get stuck in the passive mode, which can get annoying at times. Cool when it works right though

a 2000 fob (p/n: 10432147) does work on a 98. I have a 98 and that's the fob i use.

Not sure if a 98 fob works with the 2000 though.

This is not a guess, I know for sure. The 98-99-2000 fobs are interchangeable both ways. Of course the passive feature only works on the 98-99, but the fob works fine.

I raised the question of whether the 2000 fob would work with the 1997-1999 Vettes with Gene at GM Parts House and got this reply.

"Some of my customers have tried this and it didn't work. Some have tried and
it has worked. Try at your own risk!

Thanks, Gene.
"

Has anyone, who knew how to properly program the fob, not been able to use the 2000 fob in the 1997-1999 models?

As far as Gene’s customer experience. I’ll bet that those that did NOT work had other issues with the system not the least of which is improper syncing. He rightfully wants to cover his butt.

The 97-99 and 2000 are priced fairly close in cost so why not just use the “correct” one – IF buying new. Especially if you have a 2000 – they are cheaper than the 97-99 ($60.00 vs $78.00) through Gene.

I have personally interchanged the fobs on a 1999 and a 2000 - both ways.
