Does NY have an emissions check? After removing your cats, you will get a "check engine light" and fail an emissions exhaust or computer check. It could be expensive for you to replace these cats.

Setting aside the legality of removing the cats and having to pass emissions tests what do you really think you'll gain by removing them? Why not replace the stock cats with a set of hi-flow ones? They flow well and have a neglible impact on performance, plus you'll pass emissions and won't have to put up with the stink of not having cats. There's no real benefit in totally removing your cats for a street use car and anyone that says different doesn't know what they're talking about......but if you want to learn the hard way, go ahead.
Dont do it. It smells very rich and the popping on decel makes your high performance sports car sound like an old dump truck Seriously, the gains are not worth effort. I just this week, took off the set up you want in favor of headers, hi-flow cats and an x pipe.

Yes we do but I have ways to get inspected without all the "legal" parts. And the check engine light is a really easy fix with these cars.
But at the same time some of you reinforced my decision not to do it because why mess with the stock exhaust anyway when I am planning on replacing it anyway. No point.
I cut the CATs off my stock 99 exhaust to sell em and the upstream piping was double walled. the inner pipe was 2.5" and the outer pipe was 2.75" I THINK, I didn't measure em but I was thinking it would be a PITA to just replace the CATs with this setup... You'd have to cut the outer wall back far enough to weld the inner pipe to the new exhaust. Not to mention the bend.
This might be a little bit of topic but since we are talking about eliminating components on the exhaust.
Do i need to lower the rear cradle to remove the stock exhaust system? I don't want to cut it and from the looks of it the piping wont be able to be pulled out without lower the rear cradle. Any input on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
