Default fuel odor

I have a 98 A4. Lately I have noticed a fuel odor, pretty strong, after driving it. The only mods the car has is an x-pipe and cat back.

Any ideas what might be causing the fuel smell?

Thanks for any thoughts!

I had the same problem and my pass. side fuel tank had a crack in it at the top. It was literally spraying out fuel when the system would pressurize and I had a full tank. You might want to check it out could be pretty serious.

Thanks for the replies! Man, I hope it's only a fuel filter and not a cracked tank!

Is there an easy way to check this? Should I be seeing fuel on the garage floor if it was leaking from a cracked tank?

It smelled like fuel really bad every time I would top off the tank and every time I got in the car it seemed like it had 1/8 of a tank less than the last time I drove it. I had my mechanic fix it but he said you could see leak when the car was on a lift. and he was poking around up there.
