Default remove key and wait 10 seconds????????

well it finally happened....had someone work on the car and when it came down off the lift and the mechanic backed it off the lift, when i got in and started it, it started, the gauges went crazy and the car stalled out. would restart, but wouldn't continue running. ok, so i finally decided to follow the instructions, removed the key, waited 10 seconds and away i went.

my car is a 2004 CE convertible with 21000 miles. it had the dealer column lock correction when it was recalled. the wheel never locked (so i figured that part of the correction functioned as it should.)

what might have caused this to happen at this point?? (it's the first time it's happened to me since i owned the car). obviously at least this time no harm, no foul and i was on my way after the 10 second wait. just curious as to what happened and why and how to avoid it happening in the future.

thanks

If you just got this message, without the "service column lock" message it means that your car had trouble reading the resistor chip in your key.

Try cleaning it with alcohol. If this doesn't fix it, sometimes they go bad, try another key.

thanks. nope no other message, and no column lock-up, just the remove key message. like i said, first time it happened, and it was only after i got into the car after the mechanic took it off the lift.

i'll try cleaning it.

Its warning you. Get a column lock bypass right away and get it installed.

A serious suggestion,,,Get a CLB!! I used to get random messages like that,,cleaned the pellets, and it made a minor improvement. Mine had two of the recalls,,and it sounds like you've had them too,,including the dreaded"reprogram computer"!! That's what will get you eventually,,,,the fuel cut off!!!Mine went for a long time like that,,then one day out of the blue,,BAM,, stranded me with the fuel shut off. Installed the CLB and have been trouble free ever since,,About 7,000 miles since. I would get a CLB for cheap insurance and peace of mind!! I get in ,,turn the key,,no sound from the lock solenoid,,and she turns right over and starts,,,NO DRAMA whatsoever!!!
