I agree. Its a common failure for the C-5's. You'll need to replace it and/or relocate it. We're hearing that finally, someone woke up and started making the replacements out of brass again as the originals were originally made. If you get an alluminum one, there's a high probability that you'll be replacing it again in short order uinless you relocate it. No, that isn't a sure thing, but its probable. Try to insure you get a brass one.
If you go to page 4 of the link in my earlier reply and scroll down to the second post (written by Todd157k) you will see step-by-step instructions with photos to do it yourself. It looks pretty easy and I'm sure you'll save a lot of money.
Has anyone had a chevy dealer change the oil sender, and what did they charge, it sounds like a big job if the manifold needs to be removed
The Chevy dealer wants $350-$400 to change it. I did mine myself. Advance sells Borg Warner sending units which are brass for $40 with a 1 year warranty.
You can get the intake off in about 30 minutes and same to install. Not a bad job at all. Most difficult thing is to not all leaves, dirt and whatever to get into the cylinder inlets.
