Default Full Manual Auto for 4l60e

I just wanted to ask if anyone with a 4L60E if they have raced or race with a full manual valve body or if someone just has it for performance/fun? Im getting more and more into AutoX and canyon carving and was wondering on the fun factor of a full manual auto. My trans is currently built but Im going thru a few things on it and have that as an idea/option. Even with my stall, when I do canyon carving or HPDE, if I manualy use the selector the trans stays in the 170 degree range so it stays pretty cool, thanks to a huge cooler. So, anyone have a full manual auto setup? Anyone recommend or not recommend it and why? Please let me know. Thnx.

BTW, its a weekend driver and i dont mind the hassle of shifting and no, Im not getting a manual 6-speed.

I wouldn't go with a full manual auto. The ability to put it in D and go is nice. What you really want is a proper shifter for the 4L60E and possibly an adjustment to whatever keeps the car in 2nd only when it is put in 2nd.

EG was selling his custom ratchet shifter from Grond. That would really make a difference.

Hi,

I've tuned my trannie with HPTunes and added a Performance switch.
Now I can switch between normal auto mode and a self programed mode for manual shifting.

The gears are in manual mode:

D = 4. gear
3 = 3. gear
2 = 2. gear
1 = 1. gear

In manual mode I'm able to give WOT in each gear without any up or downshift.
Works awesome.
To know which mode is active I've added a small circuit and a indication LED. LED on means performance or manual mode.

Kind regards!

for any time on a road course you must learn to shift the automatic. Leaving the trans in "D" is not a good idea. All the shifting the auto trans does is in the WRONG PLACES.

for example.

Going into a brake zone before a tight hard corner, then hitting the apex and track out and to.

The automatic will bog down in the corner, and downshift to get proper rpms in the wrong place and upset the car, causeing or may cause the car to slide out.

Now when manually shifting the auto.

going into the brake zone, and just before turn in, down shift the auto, go though the corner, hit the apex, roll on the throttle, and as you track out and roll the thottle to the floor upsift. The car will be much smoother, and far better acceleration.

for most automatics on a road course all you need is 3nd and D. On short road course, 2nd and 3rd will be all you need.

The other thing there are many times leaving the auto trans ion 3rd for that extra 50 feet before the next corner is a good thing. vs upshifting to D then downshifting to 3rd.

Agreed. Thats why I do shift it manualy in HPDE. Or else with a stall you'll fry the trans!
