So does this CAI system draw "hot" air from the engine compartment as well ?
The thing is, after about 2 seconds of going WOT, you're going to suck all of the hot air out of the engine bay. After that, you'll be pulling in cooler ambient air...though it might get pulled in only after drifting by the hot engine.
I would really like to see someone post a decent test of intake air temperatures with a vararam and without. I would be surprised to see more than a 15-20 degree difference (though that is significant).
I just cut a hole on the air dam shroud under my CAI filter so as I drive the filter and engine bay are constantly fed outside air. This also reduces the "vacuum" effect our cars have and reduces the trash that gets stuck in there. I just cut the hole as close to the filter shape as I could so the radiator still gets plenty of cool air as well. Try cutting two holes, one under each filter. It will help.
I have a 2000 coupe with the same CAI as pictured and just bought the Vararam Air Bridge. It has the smooth couplers front and rear and moves the MAF to the rear (I guess it would be the front depending on how you are looking at the bridge) of the bridge closer to the intake manifold and throttle body. Question is has anyone else used this bridge with the CAI dual cone as pictured and would now be the time to replace the MAF stock 75mm with a larger MAF say the C5 Z06? Or given the rest of the engine is a stock 2000 LS1 would the larger MAF gain me anything? Does the Vararam Bridge gain me anything as well by itself? Thanks in advance for any info.
