Funny (not really), but this just happend to me a month ago on my 04. I was traveling, wife was driving, stopped at a neighbors and when she got back in key wouldn't turn. I checked the forum, found ignition switch write ups but nothing specifically to deal with key not turning. Asked locksmith, mine was nice enough to tell me he couldn't help me and said it was most likely a wafer that broke in the cylinder itself.

Long story about the dealership (car went to different dealer than I thought, they "lost" my car, took 2 days longer to get the car back, etc.), but long story short cost $600 to replace cylinder and ignition switch. Was able to keep same keys. Everything works like a charm once again.

Good luck to you!

I also had the same problem on my 98 last spring. I had the cylinder replaced as well. $600 later, all is well.

Look on the back of the remote that you have has a part number on it, go to eBay and search for the remote. I bought two from eBay for $37.00

All well most older C-5s need the switch cleaned and checked for adjustment if its never been done , not hard to do and may save big problems down the road and money .. I did my 04 at about 70,000 miles and it needed to be cleaned bad and readjusted as well.. Just saying the heart of the C-5 is the switch ..
