Default Dimmers making me lose sleep!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok,ive done searches and had no luck in finding a solution with my problem.I have a 2002 corvette and im having a problem with the read out displays(radio,hvac and cluster)not dimming when the parking lights or headlights are turned on!Actually they are working the opposite,lights off-the displays are dim as if the lights were on,i turn the headlights on,the displays get bright as if the headlights are off!Can anyone give me advice as to what to look for?The dimmer switch on the hud works when i turn it down,the displays lose brightness,when i turn it back up,displays get bright again! I pmd a few stand up guys on here but figured to throw a post being its a first for this

the dimmer switch works fine,its just that the displays dim the opposite than what they are supposed to.This is the last course im taking before i actually do start pounding and yanking and yelling and cursing and kicking and putting the car in neutral on a down slope!!!!!!!!!!!

Tony,

I found tihis in my Service DVD;

Interior Lamps Dimming

The second group includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group may use a combination of vacuum fluorescent (VF) illumination and of incandescent lamps:
The Door Switches and the Window Switches
The HVAC Control Head Assembly
The Radio
The Traction/Suspension Control Switch
The PRNDL
The Fog Lamp\Rear Compartment Lid Release Switch (Domestic)
The Front and Rear Fog Lamp Switch (Export)

When the ignition switch is turned to the ON position, the vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, for radio and HVAC control assembly, and the incandescent lamps turn ON at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are ON and the ambient light sensor indicates low light conditions, all incandescent back lighting turn ON at the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. At the same time all VF displays dim in order to match the indicated dimming level. The PK\LP fuse 6 in the instrument panel electrical center supplies battery positive voltage to both the ALC PRK LP relay switch and coil contacts. The ALC PRL LP relay coil is controlled by the BCM. When the headlamp switch is placed in the PARK position, the BCM energizes the park lamp relay coil control circuit and dims the interior lamps to the dimming level indicated by the IP dimmer switch. When the driver selects a dimming setting by moving the IP dimming switch potentiometer, all incandescent back lighting lamps are provided with a specific voltage. When the IP dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX, all VF displays and all incandescent back lighting respond from minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the IP dimmer switch.

The driver may select parade mode by manually turning on the park lamps during daylight conditions. The front park lamp circuit supplies voltage to the instrument panel cluster, the radio, and the HVAC assembly for a park lamp on input, and the displays become full bright.

Parade Mode is interesting, it sounds almost like that is what's going on with your Vette... While doing your testing are you just turning the parking lights on or turning it fully to the headlights?

Hey Tim,and you wonder why i call you SUPERSTAR! Well,ive tried it both ways,parking lights on and headlights on,although the parade mode does sound like EXACTLY what my "special"car,as you would say"lol,is doing,it still reacts the same way with the dimming.I appreciate the help and info from those who have commented,BUT,it continues.........

Ok guys ,heres the update,checked all fuses,relays,everything works,i unhooked the ambient sensor mounted in the defrost grill on top of the dash to see if that would make a difference,and it didnt!Keep in mind the headlights are on throughout this whole process! Next i took apart my cluster and unplugged the cabin sensor in the dic button switch and no difference,i then unplugged the dimmer hud switch and lights go dim,i plug it back in,displays go bright,the total opposite of what it supposed to do,would you think its a bad switch or something more in depth?I tried a different switch i had laying around and it reacted the same way,but whose to say that switch wasnt bad too! What are my options?
