Default Engine rebuild.....

......Or mods. Thinking about adding some more power! I have 116k miles now and it runs just fine. Rather than getting a ZO6 at this time, I am thinking of just bringing this one up a little. What would 50-60hp cost, and what route should I take? I won't be doing any work myself.

Cold Air Intake, Full exhaust and a tune is a good start. The sig shows an automatic, if you only have the 2.73 rear get a set of 3.42's and a converter. It will feel like a completely new vehicle.

The cost depends on the parts you choose and the sales going on. I would say around $4k for everything above. It could be more or less depending parts selection.

If you are just looking for say 50 hp, the cheapest route would probably be long tube headers and a cold air intake such as a vararam or a calloway honker plus a tune. You could gain in excess of 40 hp at the wheel and the car will feel much stronger. Just reducing or eliminating the torque management feature of the transmission will give better acceleration. I would install the intake yourself and you could get headers installed for around $2000 plus street tuning at a minimum probably cost around $250 these days and $400 to $500 for a dyno tune (a dyno tune is overkill for headers in my opinion). You can pickup a vararam for less than $300. The Calloway would run $500. So, roughly 2000 + 300 + 250 = 2550 and you will get close to 50 hp at the crank. I would budget 3K. Be advised that installation of the vararam will take some patience and a good 3 hours.
