I have a '01 Auto Modified Coupe and have done quite a bit of Open Road Racing, Drags and just recently did the Texas Mile (171 mph) with it. It has 36,000 miles on it and runs great.
My question is: Do I need to change the transmission fluid? I see that it has a drain on it but don't have a clue how to fill it. The manual says change after 50,000 with compeitive driving and 100,000 at normal use. It shifts just fine and works great, just getting a little worried that I need to change it before I cause any problems.
I looked through the forum but didn't see any posts on how to do it or maybe I need to bring it in to a dealer to have it done.
If you drive your car hard, by that I mean drag race and motor cross I think you should change the fluid sooner then 50k. The drain hole is also the fill hole.
You have to get the car jacked up so its level, run it until its up to operating temp. then drain the fluid (drop the pan and replace the filter also) be careful its going to be hot.
After you reinstall the filter and pan, you fill it (thru the drain hole) until the fluid starts to run out. Put the plug in, start the car, bring it up to operating temp. shift it thru all the gears, put it back into park, go back under the car and while its running remove the drain plug, the fluid should just run out over the threads on the drain hole, put the plug back in and your good to go.
^^^ your not removing all the old fluid that way. I'd have a shop do it since they have the equiptment to remove all the old fluid and fill with new stuff.
Change the transmission fluid and filter since you are racing it a bit. You may want to consider a full flush, but that is up to you. I have 25k on mine and I have already changed the fluid once since it was seeing the drag strip quite a bit.
