Default Engine temperature slightly high......normal??

Hello everyone,

I am completely new to vettes and I picked up my 2003 coupe yesterday. I noticed something while I was driving it around town. The temperature gauge was reading slightly high.....around 240. When the fans would kick in it would slowly drop to about 220. Highway cruising was fine and the gauge never left the midmark (220). Is 240F a normal temperature?

I did notice that there were airbubbles coming from one of the hoses connected to the overflow tank (bottom hose). I am assuming that the dealer changed the coolant and did not remove all of the air from the system. Or, can it be something else? The coolant looks brand new.

If it is air, what is the procedure for purging it?

Thanks for your help.
Mario

What were the temps before you took it to the dealership? The bubbles need to be eliminated. As far as the procedure, I'd take it back and have them (dealership) do it.

Normal, the actual point is 235 F, see below:

C5 Cooling Fans Operation

The low speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 108°C (226°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 104°C (219°F). The high speed cooling fan is commanded on when the coolant temperature reaches 113°C (235°F). It is turned off if the coolant temperature lowers to 108°C (226°F). When the A/C is on and the coolant temperature reaches 85°C (185°F), the low speed cooling fan will be turned on at vehicle speeds less than 56 kPh (35 mph).

There is NO air bleeding on a C5, just rev it alternatively to 3,000 rpms while filling up overflow tank.

Good point. I read it as he picked it up from having it serviced, not having just purchased.

Sorry. I should have been more clear. I just purchased the car. It is my dream car and I just want to be very careful in the way I maintain it. I also want to make absolutely sure that everything is A1.

Just to be on the safe side, I will be changing the coolant this weekend.

Thanks,
Mario
