I am considering purchasing a blown C-5 with almost 700rwhp, but a stock tranny. The owner said the transmission is stock, and the gears seem stiff. So amost certainly the tranny will have to be rebuilt.
Can anyone give me just a rough guesstimate as to how much it will cost, parts and labor included, to rebuild the transmission with sufficient strength to handle almost 700rwhp?
Or just buy an already built one and have it installed if for some bizzaro reason that is cheaper.
Thanks! Help sooner rather than later would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks!
Did some research short time ago rockland gear@ rockland county NY will build your tranny guarantee to 800 ft lbs torque (VETTE TRANNY)other trans 1000 ft lb they call them Tranzilla they are indeed just about bulletproof but not cheap I think about $2800 revised syncros gears cut at diff. angle made w/stronger materials .Also heard many good things @RPM TRANS (RODNEY??) I E mail him but he never got back to me but he's a supporting vendor so if interested he deserves a call that said IMO VETTE TRANNYS ARE PRETTY STOUT YOU SHOULD PUT SOME $$$$ ASIDE AND SEE HOW YOUR TRANNY HOLDS UP ANYWAY GOOD LUCK!
I had mine rebuilt locally, cost was just a little more than the stage IV from RPM. I think the build is between RPMs stage IV and V. So, did not really save much if anything over an exchange with RPM. With RPM you get confidence that goes with their rep.
