LS1 or LS6 block?
TIA.

Heads, no.
Why?
Sharing common parts among models is much cheaper to manufacture.
the Z06 made it's power using different heads and cam. Just about everything else is same as as the 01/later LS1 cars.

All 2001+ LS1 engines came with LS6 intake manifolds. Many 2001+ cars also come with LS6 blocks, which are virtually identical to LS1 blocks. I think the only difference with cast in windows for better cylinder breathing and a different structural bracing. I haven't seen any hard data where the LS6 block was better one way or the other.
Same thing with the exhaust manifolds, and there is virtually no performance difference.
As Y2kvertforme pointed out, the only thing that makes and LS6 engine a true LS6 was the heads and cam.
However, there have been, last I know, some confirmed stories of 2001+ cars also coming with 243 heads. They didn't have the lightweight valve train as real LS6 heads, but they had the upgraded 243 castings. Speculation was that parts issues caused the substitution.
