Default Welding exhaust on C5?

The driver side muffler is hanging low, can be positioned by hand. I reached under the car and the exhaust pipe was not welded to the flange behind the CAT, can this be welded on the car after disconnecting the negative battery cable? I am concerned about the control modules being damaged.

Thanks
Dave

I'm assuming you're concerned with an electric welder. Yes you can weld it on the car. Done it before with no issues. When you weld with electricity, you are creating your own independent circuit between your ground clamp and electrode.

Disconnect the NEG battery cable, and connect the welding grounding lead as close to the welding area as possible. You will be fine.

Any one with a common MIG welder can repair it. It aluminum coated mild steel. Buff off the aluminum coating with a power wire brush and weld it.

Just returned from the muffler shop, the factory weld did not penetrate the flange at all. They ran a bead and it is solid now, but it has me starting to think if I should replace the exhaust sytem.

If you replace the over the axle mufflers,,,,,do it for personal sound quality and appearance. NOT for performance. Find a muffler system on someone elses C5 that you like for looks and sound quality and COPY IT. REMEMBER,,,,,,,if they have a cam and heads and you dont, your car will sound different.

A decient muffler system is the ZO6 C5 ZO6 Ti mufflers. You cant beat them for sound, quality, weight and performance. They can be had used on the forum for $350-$400:

Aftermarket mufflers give a C5 anywhere from 3-10 HP but,,,,if you have a free flowing exhaust and add more HP mods later,,,,they will sure help!
