Default Budget Head Upgrade?

Okay LS1 Gurus...

A few weeks ago I missed the 3-4 in my 01 Vette (50% Dumb-butt shifting/50% POS Factory Shifter). Needless to say the end result was some upper end damage.

My dealer tore the car apart (twice) and found a bent intake valve in #5. They replaced all the intake valves in that bank. Much improved. However, I am still hearing some tapping noise (more than other Vettes); another bent valve? I'm also getting KR (that wasn't present before). The dealer says they don't hear it. Also, they swear none of the pushrods were bent, and did not replace any. I am still miffed as I thought the pushrods were an intentional weak link in the LS1 engine.

I am considering tearing off the heads myself (no stranger to engine work) repairing and upgrading at the same time. However, at this time, I do not have the funds to start going Stage 2 or anything like that. In fact, I am trying to minimize cost, as I had planned on trading the car for an 02 Z06 at year end.

Considered Options:

1. Get a second set of 99' up Center Bolt LS1 heads. Clean them up a little, install new valves and LS6 Springs. Cost $500

2. Get 5.3L heads. Unshroud valves, clean up ports. Install new valves and LS6 springs. $500

3. Get LS6 heads, install valves and springs like production 01 Z06. $1000

4. Get 6.0L truck heads, install new valves and LS6 springs, Deck surface down to 63CC for higher compression. $800

I'm leaning toward option 2 or 3 for the easy bump in compression. I am not really interested in shelling out more $$ for machining (decking/porting and polishing).

Give me some advice, dyno numbers for similar swaps are also great!! Thanks

If you are planning on getting rid of it - I would go with LS1 Heads and buy soem new rods just to be safe.. That way you have all of your bases covered..
