It came on the other day. Checked all the codes in the DIC and they all have an H behind them, meaning history and not current.
Do I have to buy a code reader?
This has probably been discussed before here, but I couldn't find it in a search.
Thanks for your help.
i have had some say history, only because the key had been cycled twice (2 trip detection). i don't worry too much about the h or c, just about what codes are setting.
write the codes down that you have, clear them, and drive again to see what sets.

Just had the same thing happen to me. Went to Phoenix the other day. On the way back(150 miles) check engine light came on. Stopped the car, checked under hood, drove on home watching gauges. First time since I had the car I checked the codes-all had H. I deleted them, drove the car downtown, light went off and hasn't returned and no codes. Still a mystery, but all seems well.
