Jeff, I could be wrong and I'm sure Gene can answer the question but I believe the only way you can purchase the shifter from GM is the complete unit, not just the lower half.
Ok and yes your are correct. I will wait to hear back from you. As you have seen, I have 2 threads going. I have a couple people interested in selling me 07 C6Z shifter boxes. I would be willing to purchase them but only if they are the same as the newer 08 or 09 shifter boxes. Let me know what you find out come monday....Thanks Eric.
I have had a Hurst and now a B&M. The B&M is a little less notchy, but still have kind of a grind going into 2nd and 4th when shifting slowly. I did the washers under the detent and that helps pulling the shifter out of gear, but didn't seem to do much for the grinding going into 2nd and 4th. I think I will try to find someone with a MGW and see how that feels................................... Good Luck......................Dave

Dave,
How many mile on the trans? How's the clutch? The grinding may indicate worn synchronizers, wrong trans fluid, or a clutch not fully disengaging during the shift. Shifter will do little if anything to improve it.
If you purchased the one shown in the photo in the link it might have some issues. The seal is on the trunion shaft. That's not where it should be, it should be in the housing. If you plan on using it I would suggest taking the top part of the shifter off, clean everything real well and lube the shafts. Try and get the seal back in the housing where it belongs.
I had a hurst in my car, just switched it out for a c6z shifter. Well ya the throws arent nearly as short but the feel of the **** and position is awesome. It is also quite. I couldn't stand the noise of the hurst if i had the windows up. Way to notchy, almost every stop i had to go 2nd to 1st or really press hard to get in first. I changed the fluid which made it a little better but it was still like pressing into a wall at first. I kind of liked the raw feel of the hurst but my car spends most its time on the street and i can shift the c6z shifter just as fast as the hurst. The hurst also rattled like crazy under WOT passes.
I may go to MGW in the future though just to try it out.

The car only has 25000 miles I think I used the wrong term (grind) it is really just tough to shift into 2nd gear when the car is going slow. When I am on the road going at higher speeds, it works fine. When I changed the shifter, I was hoping to get a better feel. I had a big block Chevelle with a Muncie M22 and Hurst shifter. That was a Shifter. Unfortunately that is a totally different animal......Thanks for the follow up..........Dave
i have a hurst too but i wanna get mgw, ive heard amazing things
opinions on the switch? what will be different???
thanks, im not too familiar with shifters
I removed the Hurst Billet Plus from my Z06 because it was like trying to shift a Semi. I have driven Semi's thousands of miles and I don't want the shifter in my Vette to feel like shifting a truck. I installed an MGW, man what a difference. It is smooth and easy to push from side to side. The MGW has a positive feel when it locks into gear. There is a wide difference between the Hurst and the MGW the latter is by far the better of the two.

Dave,
You may already know this but are you experiencing the 2nd gear skip shift? The Corvette to better meet emissions has a solenoid that forces a first to forth shift a slow speeds. This makes it rough to impossible to get the shifter into second gear at some of the slower speeds.

I didn't think about that. I put in the Skip shift eliminator, and figured that would take care of it. Now I know better........Thanks for the info
I'm just checking to see if there will be a consensus this time...nope...
Try driving as many cars of friends with different shifters as you can.
Otherwise, you're only getting subjective opinions and spending lots of money changing shifters on a regular basis.
You are right about the “subjective opinions”. It is much like asking what is the best engine oil to use. The main point, everyone has their own idea of what is good and bad and as you have offered, trying as many different options in the most economical way you can is excellent advice. In fact that's what drove me to install the 2008 C6-ZO6 shifter.
yeah, and if the vette can improve on one thing, its making the shifting less "tough" if thats the right word, i drove a 350z the other day and i barely moved my wrist and it slammed into gear, whereas with my hurst shortshifter you really have to jam it into gear, and it makes it a little trickier to powershift
