So without sounding naive. I just installed my Vararam on my Z06. NOw I have read about the driving in heavy rain yadda, yadda. What about car washing at a coin op witha pressure washer? How do you wash the front grill/screens area?? I know this sounds dumb but is it OK to shoot water at the Z06 screens ?? I'm sure a small amount of H2O will puddle in the bottom of the vararam duct behind the screens. What does everyone do ??
Don't worry about it. I have sprayed right in there. Not directly, but close enough for water to get in there. The Vararam has holes in the bottom part of the duct so it will drain any water out that gets in there.
Thanks for replies far guys. I mean its the area right where you get bug splatters and such. So I mean I usually just pressure washed the hell out of the front grill/bumper area. I guess I will have to be consious of that area from now on. I will have to look under, I dont remember holes under the vararam front ducts.
I matched the hole that was in them already. Around 1/4 inch if I remember correctly. Took about 2 minutes with a cordless drill. I live in Florida where it rains almost every day in certain months and have never had any problems driving in the rain. I imagine if you submerged your front end under water you should shut engine off immediately.
I keep hearing people saying that water will come into engine with this system, but as much as I've search forums all over the internet, I've never actually found one single person that this has happened to. I'm beginning to think that this may be one of those "urban legend" things, spread by people that really have no idea what they are talking about.
I believe there is one documented Vararam water-injestion case on this forum and that was a fairly deep puddle. It would take a large volume of water to make it up the ram tunnels to the TB. Just don't do this with your Vararam . . .

Is that your car, or do you have any supported info that this car did indeed have problems in this pic?

That was another forum member who posted this a few years ago. He and a buddy were on the way to race their C5's (note the number on the door) and they both went through this "puddle" with no problem. I believe the car pictured was running a BlackWing intake.
I do run a Vararam and have, in my years here, only read of one water-injestion of a Vararam-equipped C5 but the car pictured above was not it.
