Default New C5 Owner

Do to some unfortunate circumstances (the passing of my father a few months ago), I am the new owner of a 99 M6 Magnetic Red Vette. The car only has 19K miles and is completely stock. I have searched around to find some easy quick mods but haven't had to much success in finding what I am looking for. I don't want to completely mod out the car bc I know thats not what my father would want, but was thinking of doing a few smaller ones. I previously owned a 98 TA and was pretty much going to do the same mods to the vette. Was thinking out the following:

B&M shifter
New intake system
(possibly) headers
exhaust
Some other appearance mods like letter/symbol inserts etc..

What suggestions are there for exhaust and intake systems? I had SLP loudmouth on my TA, but I dont want anything that loud on the vette. I am looking for something quiet under normal driving but "you know I am there" when you open it up. Also, are the duel intake systems you see online any good? Brand suggestions?

Will try to post some pics when I can.

Thank you in advance!
Matt

Start out with a intake and catback! Then look around and decide what you want to do next.

Finally figured out how to post a pic and change my avatar.

Any suggestions on brand for intake and cat back?

I like my Bullets, but those are about as loud as the Loudmouth. There's lots of systems that are quiet while cruising and louder at WOT. I'm sure others will chime in.
I have a dual cone intake, but the Vararam is probably the best system.

And welcome!

Keep it the same way your father had it that way it will always feel like part of him he would have changed it if he wanted it that way

I have the Corsa Pace Car cat-back system. It will fit your bill perfectly! It is quiet when cruising, and screams on wide-open-throttle!
Here is what they sound like:

Stop!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You have a BRAND NEW CAR (to you)....... The Very "FIRST" recommendation to all FIRST C5 Corvette owners is to learn your car and then,,,,,Thru EXPERIENCE and see/hearing /experiencing other C5 Owners C5's,,,,"THEN",,, MOD your car. There will be 25 different opinions on what you should do. Also,,,,learn to DRIVE your car in the STOCK configuration before you MOD it. It will go a LONG way!

Base your improvements on SOUND experience of other C5 owners! There are things that work well and things that DON'T!

Heres mine (12 years C5/C6 experience)

CAT back = Muffler/s,,,,are ONLY to improve sound quality! Period!!! If you change the mufflers, you will gain 3-5 HP. Chose yours for SOUND QUALITY ONLY!!!!!!! Find a C5 that sounds like you like it and COPY the exhaust system!

Cold air intake: Best in my opinion ,,,VARARAM

Headers: American Racing Headers with High flow cats and 3" exhaust system. I currently have Stainless Works and love them. Better header,,,ARH! Period!

Spark-plug wires: GM High Performance Red Wires! Period!!!

Spark Plugs. OEM Iridium unless you up-grade to Heads Cam. Then,,,use TR-55.

CATS. Use High flow CATS. Best high flow cats IMHO = Random Tech Cats

COILS MSD coils SUCK..... Use the OEM Coils. Good thru 650+ HP

Theres Lot's of hype out there. DO NOT fall for it.

BC

Once you surpass the cold air intake & header build,,,,,you will need a:

CAM & heads and a tune. PERIOD!

It's not like he's going to put 500 extra hp into it. It's going to drive pretty much exactly the same with an exhaust and intake Plus I'm sure he's used to the power, having had a TA. But I do agree that you should research the different options before buying anything, otherwise you'll end up getting a different exhaust if you don't like the one you buy.

SLP loudmouth is loud. For good sounding axle back system, I recommend the NXT (on fleabay) or Granatelli system. They are the same exhaust. It has a low rumble, badass at WOT, and no drone compared to other similar exhaust. Plus, it's half the price of the others. I have this system on my 99 and it sounds great. I will tell you how it sounds after I get the headers and high flow catz installed next week. Cant wait. Good luck

Thank you everyone for all your input. I have been searching around for a few months on what exhaust I want to get and even though all the videos online help, There is no substitute for hearing it in person. Hopefully now that the weather is getting nicer here, more vettes will be making their way to the street.

In regards to the the intake, how difficult is the Vararam intake to install for someone with average mechanical skills? The hardest part would be removing the plastic covers by the fog lights. Obviously not as easy as a Halltech stinger.
