It can only be done with a Tech II... You'll probably have to visit your local dealership to get your mileage adjusted and maybe to let the BCM know it's got a new friend...

Does that mean they would need both clusters at the same time?

Forum member Pacethis can program mileage. I don't know what the dealership charges to do so, but here is another option. He can also answer your question in regards to this. Send him a PM and tell him NVTHIS sent you.

I went to a dealership today and they told me the if I got another cluster there's a chance it won't communicate with my PCM. They said they could fix mine and put it in so they can calibrate it and it would cost me $550. It sounds like they pulling my chain. Is this true?

What is wrong with your origional cluster? Please read and post your DTCs and a description of the issues that your seeing. It might be an easy fix.

When I press the DIC buttons nothing happens. Things like cruise control, service tire mon. ( I have C6 wheels on the car with those sensors, I have to buy 97-00 sensors soon), active handling all appear on the display. I was told that the cluster is bad. If theres an easy fix let me know. I'm about ready to buy a used cluster.

SLOW DOWN!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have several DIFFERENT issues. First off,,, You need the correct sensors! C5 Early and C5 late model sensors do not communicate. C6 sensors are UNIQUE to C6. !!! VERY UNIQUE

r
Remove the cluster and inspect the small plugs that connect the DIC buttons to the cluster and make sure that there correctly connected

You can open the cluster and there are boards that plug into each other and also plugs that connect to the boards. Examine the boards and make sure that there in good shape and there are not any loose or damaged components.

Ok so you think that the sensors are causing the main issue? I'm starting to think those C6 sensors are causing my DIC not to work. I have taken the cluster off but not out and replaced the DIC switch with another one. The same thing, nothing works. I made sure the connections were good. I did'nt actually take apart the cluster though. I'm not real good in telling if electrical components are good or not. I did'nt fully take the cluster out. Is there a trick on how to get that back main connector off? I don't want to break anything.

The wheel pressure sensors have nothing to do with the cluster. The sensors interface with the RFA module near the drivers rear speaker area.

Take the cluster out and take the rear cover off and examine it. You may find a simple issue.

Ok I'm gonna try that. I'm guessing too my key fob doesn't work because of the sensors.

FOBs and sensors are independant. Your fobs should work. Try to resync them. Hold the LOCK & UN-LOCK buttons down at the same time until the horn beeps. If that doesnt work,,,,, Reprogram them.. The procedure is in the owners manual.

I've tried that too. No luck. I looked into the manual. I can't do it since my DIC buttons don't work. I guess that's what u get when u buy a used car from the dealer. This car is turning into a money pit and I'm almost at the end of my rope with it. I sold a perfect WS6 to get this car with these bs problems.

Wait, I thought millage was stored in the computer and was just mealy displayed by the cluster. Wounldn't a new cluster receive the computer's millage?

What do all the people who do the american to europe swap, since that cluster goes up to 300 mph/kmh, do?

Mileage is accumulated and stored in the IPC. The IPC receives inputs from the differential speed sensor doe MPH and miles accumulated.

As Bill just said, the mileage is stored in the IPC. Once per mile, the BCM/PCM measure the distance traveled and send an update command along the data buss to update the miles in the IPC.
I truly do not know what people do when they switch over to the 300MPH IPCs other than you can have the mileage on the car updated to the new IPC by a speedometer repair shop or the dealer. Re-calibrating the speedometer would be the only thing.
