Drag Strip Launch Technique - MN6?
I posted this in the Corvette Racing section, but didn't get any feedback.
Can you describe your technique for launching a 6-speed C5 with stock EMT tires on a drag strip in order to achieve the lowest 60' time? What rpm do you have the car at, do you drop the clutch, do you try to avoid all wheel spin or are you trying to get a little spin at the start, etc.? This is all assuming that traction control is off.
Thanks for the advice.

With that technique, will the tires spin while in 1st? I guess I'm confused as to whether or not there should be a little tire spin or not? Common sense would say that you want to have no tire spin, but I'm not certain this is the case in practice.
Also, how much does rear tire pressure affect the traction with the EMTs?
Thanks again.

1. Drop your rear tire pressure to 26 pounds.
2. Turn your thremostat all the way up BEFORE you stage, this will kick on your fans and should get your coolant temp down to 190-194.
3. Before you launch turn everything off, air, radio tch/ah
4. I've made my best passes on 94 octane. I show up to the track with no more than a quarter tank.
5. I you have two tops dump the painted one and come only with the glass top. saves weight :)
6. Do everything Chris said :D
7. HAVE fun
8. You're probably already aware fo this but the EMT's blow chuncks. My next mod is going to be the Nitto 555's. Tires are defnitely your next mod if you're even remotely serious about racing.
9. Bypass the Thtottle body. It won't add any ponies but it will prevent you from losing horsepower when you're ledfooting down the track...cheap mod too, around 10 bucks :D
Good Luck!

That's a good point about having the gas tank closer to empty versus full. I didn't even think about that.
Great stuff to know!

Now its more dependant on the track. If the track is prepped well and I'm hooking I'll use a 1/4 tank.
If no hook is to be found I'll fill up to about 3/4's of a tank.
Its worked for me so far. The EMT's are very challenging as far as a good 60' is concerned.
Good Luck and have fun out there!
See if you can entice them into giving up some of their Driving Secrets.
What you need to do is put some hand cream on the bottom of your shoe, mash the gas till she bounces off the rev-limiter and slid your foot off the clutch :D :D :D
Nice meeting you at the track Saturday, it's The 2001 Red Coupe Bandit.
I know how you feel since last November was my 1st time to race as well. No advice for you as I have an A4, but just keep practicing. The Tiger Shark kit looks pretty cool. It will be interesting to see if you get it done.
What were your times like last Saturday? (You don't have to post them if you don't want to). Heck my 1st run was a 13.34, then on my 2nd I was able to beat my best run from last Novemeber by a few tenths of a second. It takes practice, especially in an MN6!!!!
I need a lot more runs to get it down myself.
till later

See if you can get Ric to tell you what that little piece of string was for ;) Be prepared for Driving Secrets = Many Years of Practice though.

So, the second time (roughly 1 1/2 hours later) I did the complete opposite and played Mr. Conservative. In fact, I didn't spin the tires at all. Managed a slow 14.2 second run :cry at a trap speed of 107.36 mph, and my 60' time was downright pathetic at 2.661 compared ot the numbers I've been seeing all over this forum. :bb My reaction time was .675.
I have no doubt that my 3rd run would've been the happy medium I was searching for, but there were soo many cars there that I decided not to wait that long for another go.
About the production Tiger Shark panels... I'm waiting to hear from Nate on pricing. I think it would look really sharp without the front chin spoiler, but I'm wondering about the aerodynamics of the front without it. It's too bad there's only one picture posted on the forum of the front. It's at an angle and you really can't tell exactly what it would look like straight on. My dislike of the chin spoiler is based 100% on that picture.
Take care.

p.s. I had a fun first time. With some more experience, I have no doubt that I can get that 60' time down to where it needs to be.
